A local Fianna Fáil TD says there is an “urgent need” for a women’s refuge in Cavan-Monaghan.
In an address to the Dáil, Brendan Smith said he received correspondence from Tusla last year which indicated that funding would not be available for significant service developments in 2020.
However, he appealed to the Minister for Justice to give priority attention to the provision of a refuge centre in Cavan-Monaghan.
Deputy Smith said it is a “tragic situation” that there is no refuge to support women leaving situations of domestic abuse in Cavan-Monaghan, some of whom have had to travel to neighbouring counties to seek emergency accommodation.
