Local USI Vice President slams on-campus accommodation price hikes saying “students are struggling”

The price of on-campus student accommodation is set to increase in
September.

DCU, UCD and NUIG are all increasing the cost of their on campus
accommodation by 4 per cent – the maximum allowed by law.

UL is making increases of between 3 – 4 per cent, while Maynooth University
is increasing their rent costs by 3 per cent.

Marie Lyons, Vice President of the USI for the Border, Midlands, and Western
region said that the increases were very “disappointing”.

She said that the rent cap of 4 percent is too often seen as a “target” for
university to aim for.
