Longford Overcome Monaghan With Second-Half Turnaround

Longford staged an incredible second-half comeback to beat Monaghan in the Nicky Rackard Cup by 2-17 to 1-17 in Inniskeen.

Monaghan led the tie at the interval by nine points on a scoreline of 14 points to five.

Longford manager Derek Frehill and his management team stayed out on the field as their team went into the dressing room. Their reflection on the performance sparked a second-half turnaround.

Longford stormed out of the blocks and in the 36th minute David Buckley nabbed a goal to put six points between the teams.

Longford hit the next three points then in the 42th minute, Longford found an equaliser when David Buckley grabbed his second goal of the contest.

Three minutes later and Monaghan got a goal of their own from Tadhg Campbell to restore to their three points lead.

The game was in the melting pot by the 59th minute with the sides level Longford 2-12 Monaghan 1-15.

The final minutes were ultra-competitive but David Buckley scored the final score of the game to secure Longford a three points win.

Longford meet Armagh next with a chance of progressing to the semi-finals of the competition.
