Low level of children admitted to hospital from Cavan emergency department

Nationally, Cavan General Hospital has one of the lowest levels of children being admitted to hospital from the emergency department.

That’s according to Eilish Hardiman, CEO of the Children’s Hospital Group speaking at the most recent meeting of Cavan County Council.

Outlining the current children’s hospital situation in a presentation, she stated that only 10% of children who arrive at the emergency department at Cavan General Hospital are further admitted to hospital.

In comparison, the average rate in Ireland is around 30%.

Councillor Shane P O’Reilly says that these positive figures are down to the seniority and expertise of the staff at the hospital.
