Low uptake of paternity benefit in Cavan and Monaghan

The local region has some of the lowest uptake for paternity benefit.

Figures released by the Department of Employment Affairs show almost 900 local men took paternity benefit between September 2016 and November of last year.

486 men in Cavan and 393 in Monaghan received the payments – Leitrim had the lowest uptake at 217.

Paternity benefit allows new fathers take two weeks paid leave in the first 26 weeks after the birth of a baby.
