Leona Maguire set a new course record in the opening round of the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic, shooting an eight-under-par 64.
The Cavan woman was in scintillating form in first round of the Ladies European Tour event, posting nine birdies with just the one dropped shot en route to the record score on the Nick Faldo-designed course.
Birdies at the third, fourth, eighth and ninth saw Maguire four par at the turn, then making it four birdies in a row as she entered the back nine.
Maguire dropped back to five under par on the 15th with a boggie, but two more shots were gained on the 15th and 16th, and another on the final hole saw the former world amateur number one home in 64 strokes and the clubhouse lead.
Maguire’s twin sister Lisa opened with a three-over-par 75.

A group of three share fourth place on four under including Germany’s Karolin Lampert, Scotland’s Carly Booth and former Solheim Cup player, Sweden’s Caroline Hedwall.
The tournament continues into the evening with the lights going on at the floodlit event.
