Main Cavan-Clones road reopens after lorry overturns

The main Cavan to Clones road has reopened after a lorry overturned early this morning. Two bulls were killed when the truck overturned between Cavan and Clones shortly before 6.30am. It was carrying 42 bulls at the time.

Emergency services attended the scene and the driver escaped without serious injury. He received treatment from ambulance personnel. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service assisted a vet in cutting free the distressed animals in the trailer. Two of the 40 died on impact.

The road was closed for most of the day to allow for the removal of the lorry, and to repair low hanging wires. Separately, a second lorry overturned on the Old Clogher Road outside Tydavnet this morning.
