A man on trial for the capital murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe has been called a ‘compulsive liar’ by the prosecuting barrister.

Aaron Brady, from Crossmaglen, Co Armagh, denies shooting Detective Donohoe during a robbery outside a credit union in Co Louth in 2013.

Brendan Grehan began his cross-examination of Aaron Brady this morning by asking him if he felt he was the victim in all of this.

‘I would say so, yes,’ was Mr. Brady’s reply.

The jury heard he felt he was ‘mistakenly drawn’ into this because if lies he told gardaí about his whereabouts at the time of the shooting, lies he claimed were told to cover up the fact he was engaged in illegal fuel laundering at the time.

He said ‘it all just went out of control then.’

He claimed the media ganged up on him, and he felt he was left with no choice but to move to the US to get away from it all.

He repeatedly denied having anything to do with what happened, and he accused a man who claimed he heard him say he shot a garda of being a ‘psychopath liar.’
