Man arrested after cross border high speed chase last night

A man has been arrested in the north following a high speed chase yesterday evening.

Shortly after 6 o’clock Gardaí in Dundalk received reports of a man driving under the influence of alcohol and in possession of a weapon.

The PSNI later intercepted the vehicle on the Ferryhill Road in Newry after it struck a wall and two police cars.

No one was seriously injured and no firearm was recovered.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving without insurance.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.
