Minister Heather Humphreys has rebuffed comments from a Fianna Fáil TD on funding for rural Ireland.
Eamon Ó’Cúiv says there’s a serious lack of spending on rural projects and that only a fraction of the money allocated in 2016 was actually spent.
He says €4 million of last year’s budget was carried into 2017 because it wasn’t allocated.
However, Minister Humphreys says schemes funded under the CLÁR programme often involve construction in schools and this is done outside of term time to minimise disruption.
In a statement to Northern Sound News she says that funding has been allocated to local authorities and if works aren’t carried out quickly, “then further funding will not be provided”.
