Monaghan County Council has demanded the immediate extension of opening hours of the minor injuries unit at Monaghan hospital.
In a motion proposed by Councillor Seamus Coyle, it agreed to write to Health Minister Simon Harris and the HSE calling for it to be used to ease pressure in the Emergency Departments in Cavan General Hospital and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.
There are increasing calls for the hours to be extended to seven days a week, as numbers using the facility have increased. Currently, it’s open 9-5 Monday to Friday.
Councillors also invited the unit’s management to do a presentation to the Council about the services available at the facility.
