Monaghan County Council has implemented measures restricting the movement of Heavy Goods Vehicles through Main Street in Carrickmacross.

The measures came into effect this morning.

The new restrictions on Main Street in Carrickmacross will apply to HGVs between the hours of 8am to 5am, Monday to Sunday.

This allows for a three hour window in the morning, during which deliveries will still be able to access businesses.

The restrictions, which had been planned to come into place in June of last year, will apply only to vehicles of 3-axle or greater.

Signage has been erected on approach roads alerting drivers of the new restrictions.

Under these measures, Monaghan County Council can issue permits for an exemption to the restrictions, and permit applications can be downloaded on the carrickmacross.ie website.

Meanwhile, plans are in the works for a similar restriction on HGVs in Monaghan Town.

Under these plans, HGVs would be banned from Dublin Street, Glaslough Street, Market Street, Park Street, High Street, Mall Road and Canal Street during certain times.
