Monaghan County Council will not cut down the 61 trees in Beechgrove Estate as previously stated.
Some residents of the estate have been gathering signatures on a growing petition and protesting at the site all day. Some of the residents received a letter on Friday evening informing them that a decision had been made to cut down 61 of the trees in the estate, with works starting today.
Monaghan County Council said that some of the trees were growing to dangerous heights and this needed to be addressed, and topping the trees continuously was not the ideal situation.
However, following opposition from the residents and further talks Brian McKenna from Monaghan County Council told Northern Sound News that a compromise has been found;
