Monaghan get league campaign off to a winning start

It was the opening weekend of the 2017 Allianz hurling league and in Division 3A, Monaghan had a  3-15 to 1-11 win over Tyrone, in a sunny but blustery Healy park.  The sides were level at a point apiece after 7 minutes but an 11 minute purple patch left  Monaghan in the ascendancy at 1-06 to  0-01 after 23 minutes. Tyrone then hit four unanswered points for the rest of the half and the whistle came at the right time for Trevor Hilliards side.

Monaghan led by 1-11 to 0-06 after 50 minutes with Brian McGuigan adding his 2nd goal for Monaghan in the 56th minute. Damien Casey did pull one back for Tyrone but that was cancelled out by Sean Leonard getting a goal at the opposite end.

With the story of the match, here’s Sean McCaffrey.
