A Monaghan professor says more education is needed on the risk of developing obesity.
New figures show 145 children were treated for obesity in HSE statutory hospitals last year.
In 2017, 199 children had a principal or additional diagnosis of obesity when they were discharged.
The figures relate to inpatient and daycase admissions only – and don’t include emergency department or outpatient cases.
Monaghan native Professor Niall Moyna, from DCU’s school of health, says more needs to be done on all levels.
