Monaghan student named as national finalist for ‘outstanding’ volunteerism

A Monaghan teenager has been named as one of the finalists in the national Pramerica Spirt of Community Awards.

The awards are the only all-Ireland youth initiative which rewards post-primary students for outstanding acts of volunteerism in their local communities.

Bartek Karpinski arrived from Poland 10 years ago and is now a sixth year student in Castleblayney College.

His personal experience of immigration led him to work in his local community to change people’s attitudes towards non-nationals living in Ireland.

He is one of the 20 finalists from across Ireland to be selected, and at the awards ceremony in March, he will be presented with a silver medallion.

Two of the 20 finalists will also be named All-Ireland Youth Volunteers of the Year, and will travel to the U.S to participate in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
