A Monaghan Superintendent has confirmed they hope to have a permanent solution for Emyvale Garda Station early in the New Year.

The building was badly damaged in a suspected arson attack in October 2019 and is yet to be reconstructed.

The existing station was demolished along with its former married quarters set to be refurbished for use as the new Garda Station following the fire in October last year.

It was confirmed that planning had started back in June, but, members of Monaghan County Council have since criticised the slow progress by the Office of Public Works to start construction.

However, it was confirmed at a recent meeting of the Monaghan Joint Policing Committee by Superintendent Pat O'Connell that they were in negotiations with the OPW and two proposals were being put forward.

He told members that they are currently looking at a temporary solution, before a permanent one, which is expected in the New Year.

Superintendent O'Connell also highlighted that Scotstown and Monaghan Town were working together to service the area at present.
