Monaghan Win: Cavan To Be Relegated

Cavan are resigned to relegation after losing to Monaghan in their Allianz Division one derby.

Monaghan saw off their Northern Sound neighbours by 14 points to 1-08 in a wet and windy Clones.

The sides were level at half-time 1-03 to six points. Cian Madden getting the goal for Cavan in the opening minute.

Cavan then went 28 minutes without scoring as Monaghan had the better of the exchanges in the first half.

Monaghan dominated proceedings in the second half and at one stage had a five points lead. Conor McManus excelling with six points to his name.

Jack McCarron had an eventful second half for Monaghan. The forward entered the fray in the 43rd minute, scored three points and was sent off in the 68th minute for a second yellow card.

A positive for Cavan was the introduction of talismatic midfielder Gearoid McKiernan in the 48th minute for his first game of the season. The midfielder kicked three points.

The result moves Monaghan onto four points with one game remaining.

Malachy O’Rourkes side are away to Mayo next Sunday continuing their battle for survival.

One point above Roscommon in the relegation zone.
