Monaghan will look to retain their Division 1 status for a 7th consecutive year when they welcome Meath to St Tiernachs Park Clones on Sunday (25th) at 2pm.

The Farney side currently sit 6th in the table of 8 on 5 points equal with Mayo who are in 7th place, while Meath have already been relegated having failed to win any of their games so far.

A win or draw for Monaghan should be enough for them to stay up, as they currently have the head to head advantage over Mayo and Tyrone who meet in Castlebar at the same time.

If however they were to lose and the game in the west was a draw or victory for Mayo, Monaghan would be relegated on 5 points, as Mayo would move to 6/7 points and Tyrone would remain on 6 or go to 7.

Seamus Mc Enaneys side would be favourites going into the fixture, but know they will face a Royal side who have been unfortunate in a number of their games, to have not gotten a result.

Last weekend seen them lose out to Dublin by 1-20 to 19 points, while prior to the enforced Covid 19 lockdown back in March, they lost out to Galway by 2 points and Kerry by 3. There heaviest defeat came at the hands of Dongal.

For Monaghan it has been a similar run of results, with them opening their campaign with a 1 point loss to Galway, before over coming Tyrone, drawing with Dublin and accounting for Mayo. Their last action back in March seen them loosing to Donegal in Ballyshannon and that has been followed up with a loss to Kerry last weekend.

A win for Monaghan on Sunday, will then see Mayo and Tyrone battle it out to see who will join Meath in Division 2 in 2021.
