Cavan County Council is to look into following Carrickmacross’ lead in setting up a reverse vending machine in the county.
Carrickmacross was the first town in Ireland to install a reverse vending machine.
The innovative installation allows users to insert used plastic bottles into the machine and redeem a 10 cent voucher per bottle.
The Carrickmacross reverse vending machine recycled 20,000 plastic bottles within its first 30 days.
Fianna Fáil Councillor Aiden Fitzpatrick tabled a motion at the recent Cavan County Council Meeting which called for the county to introduce a similar scheme.
