New alcohol Bill under criticism from rural outlets

There’s been criticism of the new Alcohol Bill which is to be debated later this year.

The Alcohol Bill will come before the Oireachtas this Autumn and includes regulations which will ban the supply of alcohol where it is offered for free.  While the aim of the Bill is to reduce alcohol harm in Ireland, David Fitzsimons, CEO of Retail Excellence Ireland, says it goes too far.

He says, as a result, shops and hairdressers will not be allowed to offer their customers a complimentary drink, even at official openings.  And he says it’s another draconian measure for smaller shops and businesses in rural Ireland.
