Bus Éireann’s Dublin Derry bus route is at risk of being closed according to a new document.
It’s the first time Bus Eireann has indicated routes which could be closed as part of a restructuring programme.
One of the routes with the potenial of being axed is the Dublin Derry route which services a number of towns throughout County Monaghan.
The Irish Times is today reporting that Bus Éireann sent a document to staff outlining a number of radical changes including staff salaries and work practices, as well as the closure of some routes and depots.
According to reports, Bus Éireann says the company’s financial position is deteriorating, and losses for 2016 are now estimated to be €9.4 million.
Today’s newspaper report says consideration is being given to closing three routes, the X7 Dublin – Clonmel route, 021 Athlone- Westport route and the 033 Dublin – Derry, as closing these routes would save €1.1 million.
