New survey shows majority of local women had positive experiences of maternity care

The Director of Health Information Standards at HIQA says she’s “very happy” with the results from the first ever National Maternity Experience Survey.
The survey revealed that 85% of women have had a good or very good experience of maternity care.

These respondents said they had confidence and trust in hospital staff and midwives, who treated them with dignity and respect.

However, 15% of respondents reported negatively on their experiences.
The period shortly after birth was highlighted as an area requiring improvement, with some saying they did not receive the physical or emotional supports they needed at this time.

Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Rachael Flynn, Director of Health Information Standards at HIQA, explained how the findings will be used to improve maternity services:
