The Ulster Canal is set for a multi-million euro planned restoration with the hopes of a major tourism boost for the county.
Monaghan County Council have approved plans from Waterways Ireland to revive almost 4km of the historic Ulster Canal in Clones.
The cross-border public body tabled plans at the end of November concerning a 3.75km stretch from Clonoony to Derrynure.
Those plans encompass moves to install a 3.6km stretch of grassed towpath, a 3.4km access road, extensive realignment works alongside the refurbishment of Kelly's Canal Bridge and a new pedestrian footbridge at Clonlura.
An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and a Natura Impact Statement (NIS) were also lodged.
Waterways Ireland were given the go-ahead with 25 conditions attached.
