The Rotunda Hospital has agreed to stop consultants on public-only contracts from treating private patients.
The hospital's board says it has decided to bring its arrangements into line with Government policy following a dispute with the Department of Health.
The issue emerged after it was revealed some consultants on public-only contracts were continuing to carry out private work.
The board says it could not risk a withdrawal of State funding but believes a compromise should be found to preserve choice in maternity care.
