It’ll be next week at the earliest before a “Do Not Consume” notice on the Bailieborough Public Water scheme is lifted.
Almost 8,000 people east Cavan are affected by the notice which was put in place by Irish Water this lunchtime.
Bailieborough, Killinkere, Virginia, Crossbane and Mullagh are affected.
The utility says an “unprecedented” level of manganese in the supply meant the notice was necessary.
Irish Water says the water should not be consumed but can be used for washing, laundry, flushing toilets and washing dishes.
Anthony Skeffington from Irish Water told The Wider View this afternoon that it’ll be next week at the earliest before the notice will be lifted:
Irish Water says tankers are at Bailieborough Old Courthouse, The Showgrounds in Virginia, Mullagh Heritage Centre Cark park and the Church Car parks in Killinkere and Crossbane but this water should be boiled before use.
