Niall Kearns is set to miss the start of Monaghan’s 2019 campaign as he continues his recovery from a heart operation.
The Irish Sun reports that Kearns underwent heart surgery in a Dublin hospital last October to repair a heart valve, which will require months of rest and recuperation.
Kearns made his senior championship debut in Monaghan’s opening Ulster victory over Tyrone in Omagh helping the county to the All-Ireland football final.
The Irish Sun also reports that Kieran Hughes will also be absent when Monaghan begin the league at home to Dublin in Clones later this month.
The Scotstown man has been hampered by a hamstring injury and Malachy O’Rourke is unsure when Hughes will return to team.
