Largy College in Monaghan and St.Bricin’s College in Belturbet are representing the region at the Young Social Innovators Awards today in Croke Park.
These awards acknowledge the work of students across the country who have made a significant impact in their community. Largy College focused on making their community a more welcoming place for refugees, especially families from the Syrian Resettlement Programme. They created a ‘Monaghan Welcomes you’ App, and held a ‘Flight to Freedom’ Challenge, as part of the project.
They have been shortlisted under the ‘Make our community more inclusive and poverty free’ category, and throughout today will participate in workshops and panel discussions. St. Bricin’s College were also shortlisted for the final with their project on Period Poverty, however, a timetable clash means the students will not be attending today’s final in Dublin.
