‘One drug addiction Counsellor for Cavan/Monaghan not enough’

The lack of drug addiction services in Cavan/Monaghan has come under criticism.

Currently there is just one drug addiction Counsellor for Cavan/Monaghan, which Garda Chief Superintendent Christopher Mangan says is not adequate.  Earlier this year a Garda drugs unit was set up for both counties after analysis showed that there was a need for one.

However, Chief Superintendent Mangan says there needs to be more support for people seeking help for drug addiction. He also says that alcohol is a huge problem for both counties and highlighted that people were regularly being arrested at weekend for their own safety.  Meanwhile Fine Gael Councillor in Cavan Winston Bennett requested that the county’s Joint Policing Committee seek a second drug addiction Counsellor for the region.
