The list of local election candidates in Cavan and Monaghan has grown again. Former Monaghan Town Councillor Tommy Hagan has announced his intention to contest May’s elections.
He had been a Fine Gael Councillor, before resigning from the party over cuts to allowances and medical cards in 2013. He contested the last local elections as an independent but failed in his bid for election to Monaghan County Council. He’s well known as a campaigner for increased services at Monaghan Hospital.
Meanwhile, Sarah O’Reilly has been confirmed as a candidate for the Aontú party. She resigned from Fianna Fáil last year, raising concerns about the party leadership’s stance on abortion. She had previously said she’d run for the party in May’s election but was formally ratified in the Bailieborough-Cootehill area this week.
