Part 8 planning has been approved for a new two-story fire station in Ballyjamesduff.
The proposal was unanimously approved at the recent Ballyjamesduff municipal meeting.
Local Fine Gael Councillor Trevor Smith said that the current station is not fit for purpose and that the fire service needs to be commended for putting up with the current facilities.
He added that the new station will be a “carbon copy” of the recently opened station in Virginia, and is expected to be constructed within two years.
Speaking to Northern Sound News, Councillor Smith said the planning approval marks the fruition of a plan that began with former Chief Fire Officer Noel Burke:
