People in Monaghan have one of the lowest disposable incomes in the country.
The most recent CSO figures show, in 2014, Monaghan had the third lowest income in the country, and that Cavan also had below average levels of disposable income.
The figures show Cavan had an average income of €16,889, with Monaghan having a figure of €16,395.
However, the Central Statistics Office says both counties have seen an increase in average disposable income from 2012 to 2014 – but this is down from 2008 when the figure was highest.
That year saw Cavan have an average of almost €22,000 (€21,583), with Monaghan having an average of almost €20,000 (€19,794).
