People moving house makes it difficult to follow up on unpaid litter fines

It’s difficult to follow up on unpaid litter fines because often people have moved house and left no forwarding address.

Monaghan County Council was responding to figures released to Northern Sound News that showed 46 per cent of litter fines issued in the county last year have gone unpaid.

However the situation was worse in Cavan, with 60 per cent of fines issued there still unpaid.

The majority of fines are issued for fly tipping or for littering at bring banks.
