Permission granted for 17 new houses in Monaghan estate despite campaign by residents

Planning permission has been granted for 17 news houses in a Monaghan town housing estate, despite a campaign by residents for it to be blocked. In 2017, Deancastle Developments Ltd lodged a planning application for 17 new houses, a playground and pitch at Drumbear Woods.

However the plans received forty submissions by or on behalf of residents, citing congestion and a lack of open spaces in the estate as reasons. Monaghan Council gave the go ahead to the development but that decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by members of the “Drumbear Wood No More Houses Group.”

Late last week, An Bord Pleanála ruled in favour of the developer.
