A project to support young people who are affected by substance misuse in Cavan and Monaghan has received 190,000 euro in funding.
The funding for the initiative is being granted under the National Drugs Strategy, ‘Reducing Harm Supporting Recovery’, where the focus is on early harm reduction.
It was recently revealed that almost 100 people are being treated for heroin addiction in the region, with further reports from Teach na Daoine’s Packie Kelly, that the use of drugs is being normalised, particularly amongst young people, in Cavan and Monaghan.
This new funding will see the CHO 1, which covers Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan and Monaghan, implement a Young People’s Substances Use Support Service in Cavan and Monaghan.
The initiative will service all young people throughout the CHO1 to target disadvantaged rural communities.
