Property tax in Monaghan goes towards matching government funding says local councillor

Local Property Tax payments in County Monaghan helps the local authority draw down on government funding. Fine Gael Councillor Sean Gilliland said motor taxes and the LPT are budgeted into the council’s income so it can match funding offered by government departments.

He was welcoming the allocation of over €1.2 million euro to allow for modifications to the homes of the elderly or people with disabilities. 20 per cent of which comes from Monaghan County Council.

Speaking to Northern Sound News, Councillor Sean Gilliland said it’s a necessary payment that everyone benefits from.
