Public consultation is underway for the proposed upgrading of the N2.
The scheme, which was announced today, would see the beginning of discussions on improvements to the main Dublin to Derry road. The council is encouraging the public to participate and share their opinions on the proposed route between Ardee and Moy Bridge which could see farms and residences impacted.
Speaking at the Monaghan MD, Cathoirleach Sean Conlon said he was mindful of potential impact but that the record of fatalities and lack of motorway infrastructure in the north-east must be addressed. A plan to upgrade the road was previously set out in 2007 but was halted due to a lack of funding.
Meetings will be held in Monaghan, Castleblayney and Carrickmacross in the coming weeks, with a department application for the 60 kilometers of road scheduled to be submitted within the next two years.
