Russian president denies request to expel 35 U.S diplomats

The Russian president has denied a request from the country’s foreign ministry to expel 35 US diplomats.

It follows Barack Obama’s expulsion of 35 diplomats, saying it’s because Moscow used cyber-attacks to influence its recent election – which the country denies.

In a statement, Vladimir Putin says he ‘reserves the right’ to retaliate – but will look at Donald Trump’s policies before taking action.

The frayed relations come just weeks away from the inauguration of a new President in the US.
