The sharing of nude pictures among young people in Monaghan has become normalised.

This is just one of the main findings of a survey that has been carried out by Comhairle na nOg Monaghan entitled ‘An Understanding of romantic relationships of young people in Monaghan’.

500 young people between the ages of 12 and approximately 19 were surveyed with the vast majority reporting to be sexually active, nervous and underequipped when it came to sex education, and many stating that they were non-heterosexual.

However, Regional Director of Youth Work Ireland Cavan/Monaghan Caolan Faux, says the figure of 80 percent of females and 64 percent of males aged 16 and 17 being asked to send nude pictures is one of the most concerning.
