Slight drop locally in the number of people signing on in January

There was a slight drop in the number of people on the live register in the Northern Sound region in January.

 

8,242 people were on the live register locally in January.

 

There was a drop of almost 1,700 people on the live register locally in January when compared with the same month last year.

 

4,592 were signing on the County Cavan, with another 3,650 in County Monaghan.

 

Cavan saw a slight increase of 35 people signing on when compared with December, Monaghan saw a drop of 61 over the same period.

 

Nationally, 278,600 were on the live register last month – the lowest point since the start of the recession.
