Snow and ice warning for Cavan and Monaghan

Snow and ice is expected in Cavan and Monaghan as Met Eireann issues a nationwide yellow warning. We’re being told to prepare for slippery road conditions. Salting crews will be operation in both counties this evening, as the local authorities prepare for the cold snap.

The status yellow ‘snow-ice’ warning is being applied to the whole country, with scattered sleet and snow showers forecast most frequent across Ulster and Connacht. Accumulations of 1 to 2 centimetres are expected.

Some of these showers will spread into central and eastern areas at times, with the odd flurry further south. The weather warning comes into effect for the entire country from 9pm tonight to 7pm tomorrow evening.
