A state-of-the-art sports facility in Cavan is being considered as a recipient of a €100 million infrastructure fund.
Last year a public consultation was launched as well as a feasibility study into developing the idea.
In a reply to a parliamentary question to Niamh Smyth, Minister for Sport Shane Ross said it was one of 72 applications received for the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund.
All applications are being examined in detail and the successful proposals will be announced before the end of the year.
Speaking ahead of last year’s public consultation, Director of Services at Cavan County Council Brendan Jennings said it would be similar or bigger than the Peace Link in Clones.
