The Steadfast House Residential Service – Group Home has been found to be mostly compliant with HIQA regulations.
An unannounced in section was carried out by the health watchdog at the facility on the 6th of October 2020.
The inspector found on the day of inspection that the facility in Monaghan was fully compliant in 8 of the 11 areas examined.
While each of the residents present on the day reported that they felt comfortable, respected, and at home at the centre, it was found that there were gaps in the effective monitoring of the service which management confirmed would be acted on in a specified timescale starting from November 2020.
There was also substantial compliance in the area of staff training. It was noted that staff had the right skills and qualifications and on-going training was provided, with staff engaging in mandatory training, as well as Covid response training.
However, some refresher training was required, as well as training regarding the specific types of medications prescribed to residents, which the Person in Charge then arranged for October 28th 2020.
The facility was found to be non-compliant when it came to Individual assessment and personal plans, with the inspector noting that goals were not developed with residents once previous ones were achieved and plans on mental health care needs were undeveloped.
This issue was to be addressed by the 30th of October.
The provider stated that plans relating to mental health care needs will be developed and incorporated into person centred plans in a clear and concise way to inform continuity of care for residents where necessary.
Overall it was found that the centre provided an excellent level of care, guidance, and dignity to each of the 5 residents, with their emotional and medical needs met, and residents said they were well cared for and enjoyed living there.
