Cavan bowed out of the Ulster Under-20 football championship suffering a 1-11 to eight points defeat at the hands of Down at Kingspan Breffni Park writes Michael Cooke.
Down pulled away in the last few minutes having only led by five points to four at half-time.
The sides were level at three points apiece after 23 minutes as Thomas Smith registered a brace for Cavan with Emmett Boylan also on target.
Cormac O’Reilly then added another for the Breffni men leaving them facing a one-point deficit in the second half.

Down finished with a flourish rattling off 1-3 in the last few minutes and emerged victorious.
Next up for the Mourne men is a semi-final date with Donegal as Sean Paul Barret’s side need penalties to get over Monaghan after it finished 1-12 to 2-9 after extra time.
