TD Brendan Smith says rural children must not be discriminated against due to busing issues

Fianna Fáil TD Brendan Smith has called on the Minister for Education and Skills to ensure that there is adequate school bus places provided for local students.

The call comes after ten Shercock families revealed that their children were left without a place on the school bus for the upcoming academic year.

Minister for State John Halligan said that the school transport system is “creaking at the seams” and Smith is calling for extra funding to deal with the issue.

Brendan Smith said that it was impossible for many parents to drive their children to and from work due to other commitments.

Smith also stressed that it is vital that rural communities are not discriminated against.
