A temporary bridge has opened to traffic on the N2 in Monaghan town. The bridge, at the gates of St Macartan’s College and Lakeland Dairies, has been put in place to allow for the replacement of the main bridge on the route.
It’ll be in place for the next 12 months. Monaghan County Council received funding from Transport Infrastructure Ireland to carry out the works to alleviate flooding at the site.
The new permanent bridge will be one metre higher than the existing structure. A temporary 30 km/h speed limit is in place.
Over 8,000 vehicles use the bridge in question on a daily basis and drivers are urged to take care on the route because of the new layout in place.
