Over 8,000 residential properties were recorded as being vacant locally in 2016.
That’s according to a survey by DKM Economic Consultants.
It shows that in Cavan, out of a total of 34,000 (33,875) properties, just over 5,000 (5,170) were vacant or 15 per cent of the total stock.
In Monaghan, out of a total of 26,000 (25,633), just over 3,000 (3,081) were vacant — 12 per cent of the total stock.
Meanwhile, the number of new addresses added to the directory in 2016 nationally reached 14,000 (13,842).
100 of those were in Cavan, with 149 in Monaghan.
