Three local teachers have been shortlisted for the inaugural “Teachers Inspire Ireland” Awards.
The initiative highlights the contribution made by teachers in Irish society.
There were over 400 entries nationwide, which were reviewed by a panel chaired by former President Mary McAleese.
Those 400 entries have been whittled down to a shortlist of 20, which includes:
Kelly Loughran, of Beech Hill College, Monaghan; Fr. Sean Nolan, of St. Macartan’s College, Monaghan; and Ann Gallen, who was Principal of Cortober National School in Cavan, which closed in 2015.
Gallen was nominated by past pupil Kevin Gormley, who himself was inspired to become a teacher due to Gallen’s influence.
