Three men remain in custody after Gardaí foiled an ATM robbery in Virginia yesterday.

One man, aged 28, was arrested in Virginia last night, with a 61 year old arrested at a site in Moynalty, Co Meath which was raided by Gardaí at the same time.

A third, also in his 20s, was apprehended by Gardaí yesterday afternoon in Virginia.

It’s believed that a fourth man remains at large with searches continuing in the area.

Those arrested are being questioned in Garda Stations across Cavan and Monaghan. They can be held for up to a week.

Gardaí intervened as a digger was being used to remove a bank machine from a wall in Virginia at 2.30am this morning. A 28 year old man was arrested at the scene.

Over €300,000 in cash recovered from the site in Moynalty, with a 61 year old man arrested there. A number of cars and trailers were also found.

The suspects are being questioned at garda stations in Kells, Co. Meath, Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan and Bailieborough Co. Cavan.

Superintendent Gordon Englishby of Baileborough Garda Station says the investigation remains live:

Superintendent Englishby has appealed for anyone with information to contact Gardaí:

The third man, who’s in his 20s, was arrested after armed Gardaí stormed a business in the town. Patrons in the business at the time were rushed to another area.

It’s believed he had fled the scene at the ATM as Gardaí intervened last night and had hidden nearby.
