A second-half fightback from Ulster wasn’t enough as they lost their European Champions Cup clash against Clermont Auvergne.
They went down 38-19 in their Pool Five game at the Stade Marcel Michelin.
Emyvale native Tommy Bowe scored two tries for Ulster, Franco van der Merwe also went over while Paddy Jackson converted two conversions to help close the gap 28-19 in the second half.
But two tries from Nick Abendanon, two from Isaia Toeava and Camille Lopez, a penalty try and four conversions from Morgan Parra helped secure victory for the Top 14 side.
The win puts Clermont on 17 points in Pool 5, eight points clear of Bordeaux-Begles and Ulster who are level on points.
